Assistant volleyball coach, yes, that's me :)

November 7th, 2009 (10:09 am)
listening to: Ke$ha - TiK ToK

So I'm out in Eielson for VB regionals. We're out of the tournament, but it's been a fun season. I joined so I could learn how to coach, but it turns out I really like this sport. I wish I could be the asst bb coach too, but I think that's already filled. Our first nt here, me, Jenna, Marie and Andrea went to the field house. We ended up playing two touch football or whatever. Tons of fun. Then last nt we went bk, with Emma and Felicia and played football, basketball, soccer, and raquetball.

Alright, so it's almost Thanksgiving, and this new homepage of LJ's is telling me it's been 22 weeks since I updated.  Holy crap.

School has started and we have way fewer kids this year, plus a lot have gone home because of homesickness and other probs.  Even kids who've made it a year or two here suddenly went home this year.  I'm teaching seven classes this year: 3 US History, 3 AK History, and 1 World History.  I've never taught WH before, never even taken it, so it's been an interesting year.  I spend A LOT of time at school.  Some days I feel good if I've gotten home before 9 pm.  I'm in a new bldg, the Headquarters building, down the hall from the troopers, which is proving interesting.  I call my room The Cave.  There are no windows and the walls are 2 feet of cement.  I bought a couple of nature calendars and ripped them up and put them on the walls as fake windows.  Yeah, we look out the "window" in the middle of nowhere Alaska and see Ireland.  Life can be awesome.

Me and Dinker started watching True Blood this year, and we still watch Supernatural.  The new cosmo-teacher-in-training is 23, and we've been hanging out with her, watching True Blood and Supernatural.  It's been fun.  I lent her Veronica Mars and of course she got hooked.  Me, Dinker, and Jenna go to the bar pretty much every weekend after we've watched our shows on Saturday.  Sometimes we go out on Friday.  The last couple of weekends have been kinda lame.  Halloween was so much fun.  The bar had 2 dollar margaritas.  Holy shitake mushrooms, me and Jenna had quite a few of those.  I have NEVER felt so sick the next day, and for so long.  To quote VM, "Me and tequila?  Never again."  There were intersting things going on at the bar with some of the guys, but not really sure what....that night is a wee bit fuzzy.  I remember Dinker taking off, driving for someone, but me and Jenna stayed to play pool with LB and SS.  Yeah, Halloween was fun.  CJ came dressed as Nurse Joker and looked great.  Too bad me and J were the only ones who recognized him.  He won the contest, but they announced him as the nurse from hell.

My mom got a new baby in last week.  Baby Tash is just the CUTEST thing!!!!  OMG, I just love that kid.  She's three months old and Ky adores her.  Rarely lets Tash out of her sight.  I have discovered that I will make a complete idiot of myself if it'll get a smile out of her.  Lovely.

I've been having CW Night every Saturday night.  We watch OTH, Gossip Girl, Privileged, and 90210.  I love Priviliged.  It's full of awesomeness from Rose to Megan to Will *heartheart*  I was having Supernatural night on Thursdays, watching the first season, but that petered out after a couple of times, with just a couple of girls, and it was a lot of gas money.  Gas is still $6.80 a gallon (which is better than this summer's $7); I wonder if I look at this entry in a year, I'll be talking about how cheap that is...I remember thinking $5.25 was super expensive last winter..

We might have up to 9 girls again with us for Thanksgiving.  I'm hoping to watch a couple of new releases, maybe Twilight with the girls.  We have them for six hours on that day, which could get long if there's girl-drama (of which there's been a bit down at the dorms this winter).

I have fallen back in love with Smallville this season.  The last couple of seasons have been a bit...not lame, not disappointing, but just...tiring?  Like, if the Clark and Lana story had continued, I would have had to beat my head against a wall or something.  Bleh.  But, ohhhhh, I got so made at what Clark did in Abyss.  But in Bride...the ending....I can't WAIT till it comes back in January.  Which is way different than how I felt at the end of Season 7 in May, where I wasn't on pins and needles for Season 8 to start.

Alright, I'm off to learn about this torrent thing...

Weirdest thing EVER...wireless at camp!

June 21st, 2008 (10:43 am)
tired

current location: Bible Camp Kitchen
feelin': tired
listening to: Kids singing in session

Okay, so this may be my weirdest post ever - if only because it's coming from camp.  Yup, mark this year down as another year of firsts - the covered area is up, the kitchen is built (but not finished - there are two builders working on it that got ahead of schedule so they went somewhere else for two weeks, but are coming back at the end of Teen Camp), and we have WIRELESS INTERNET!!!  They brought up a satellite and Roger put it up during counselor training, then when Brian came up, he put in something so we have wireless in the kitchen.  Well, in a corner of the kitchen.  I got on two days ago, but then wasted so much time looking at things on the internet, that I wouldn't let myself get my computer out yesterday, cause I will just waste time, and yesterday, I had NO time to waste.  My only breaks were when I was watching Transformers while counting gummi bears for the store while the kids were hiking, and snagging a second shower during the evening session before getting snack ready (it was a hot day, and on days like that, I just HAVE to have an evening shower).  Got to bed around 2.

Hmmm....not much else going on.  Have to blog something about the end of the school year - so I'll have to go back and do that.  Off to put some laundry in!

So Ky and I were talking about immortality after watching a preview for New Amsterdam, I explained that it meant that you'd never die, and she said, "I wanna be immortal."  When I said that meant she'd never get to Heaven, she replied, "I'll bring Heaven to me."

And earlier, Tam got a call from a boy and I was teasing her, and she took the phone upstairs, ane me and Ky were looking at each other, smiling/giggling, and then Ky drew a heart with her fingers; I cracked up.

Soundtrack to my life

listening to: Good Charlotte - The River

Waiting for something to download, so thought I'd try this out, see what kind of random life story I come up with....

1. Open your music player (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, etc).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question type the song that’s playing. When you go to a new question press the next button.

There were some that I wanted to skip through, but I resisted, and ended up with a pretty weird soundtrack...although two songs from my third grade Really Rosie musical...I wonder if that means anything :)

Lost, Ky's birthday, and other randomness

listening to: Lizzie McGuire - What Dreams Are Made Of

So, I've been catching up on Lost since I went over a year and a half without watching any. I must say, Sayid might be my new favorite character - he has the same reactions that I would have - distrust everybody. So far, all of his instincts have been right. Jack's irritating, trusting that blonde wench (I haven't finished the third season yet; I'm gonna run home as soon as all these little people crash out). Still love Sawyer. Kate I'm not so sure about. I really don't like the blonde Other. She just irritates me. And Jack with his all "That makes you one of us." Whatever. I can't wait to finish the 3rd season.

So it's Ky's birthday today, and she's having a slumber party (her first one). My mom recruited me to come help out. It's been going good pretty far. Made a CD of disney/hannah montana music for them to rock out. One of the girl's mom's dropped her off and was met by all the little girls in the kitchen, already in their pj's, and her first comment: "That's a lot of pink." All of the girls were wearing pink pj's...yeah, this is that age.

Last night, JD, Jenna, and Mary stayed the night. Kate was with us until about midnight, and they watched 4 eps of Gossip Girl, until Kate's parents picked her up, and then they all fell asleep during the first episode of Life is Wild. But then they watched 3 eps when they woke up. They helped me clean up, and then I brought them all home at 1:30 (it was thirty below, so couldn't really have them walk home). There was a cake walk/raffle fundraiser last night, and Mary won two cakes in a row (one was a cake, one was brownies and cookie bars).

Can't wait for Jericho!!!!!
